I had the pleasure of demoing the ZBASE 580. its a single cabinet, dual sub-woofer virtual surround sound speaker system. When judging this product i based it on 6 criteria: ease of setup, ease of use, versatility, sound quality, suround sound and value.
- In Ease of setup, it scores an A. It was extremely easy to set up. if you can plug in two composite cables, you’re golden.
- It was a true plug and play operation. And if you get tired of using the included remote control, the 580 can with about 4 button pushes learn to use you remote control and not the other way around. For those reasons, it also revived an A in the Ease of use category.
- I called this one versatility, meaning the variety of ways it can be hooked up. You you could connect 6 devices simultaneously with it’s built in one 3.5mm stereo jack two rca’s, one spdif and one digital coax. All that’s cool, but the lack of HDMI support bought it an B.
- Sound quality gets an A hands down.
- I have never been a huge fan of simulated surround, to me it just doesn’t deliver. i had to give a C here.
- At a price of $499.99, the ZVOX 580 is a hassle free speaker system that delivers great sound and requires no costly or messy installations. it’a worth every penny and gets an A for Value .
Overall, the 580 gets an A and i’d definitely recommend to anyone wanting to easily enhance thier movie watching experience and music listening enjoyment.
